Abstract

This study aimed to (1) compare students’ academic achievement before and after participating in a practical case study-based learning process using a hotel accounting system, (2) examine students’ environmental-health attitudes resulting from the learning process, and (3) evaluate their content understanding, analytical thinking skills, learning participation, satisfaction, and confidence in applying knowledge. The participants were 14 undergraduate students enrolled in the Accounting and Finance for Hospitality and Hotel Business (IHM321) course in the second semester of the 2024 academic year. Data were collected through a five-section questionnaire (25 items) measuring students’ attitudes and satisfaction and a pre-test/post-test achievement test. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, mean, standard deviation, the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test, and Cronbach’s Alpha reliability analysis.

The findings revealed that students’ post-test scores were significantly higher than their pre-test scores (p < .05), indicating that the case-based experiential learning using the hotel accounting system effectively enhanced their academic achievement. Overall attitudes and satisfaction were rated at a very high level (M = 4.40), with the highest mean score in teaching satisfaction (M = 4.60), followed by content understanding (M = 4.56). Analytical thinking skills received the lowest mean (M = 4.35) but remained at a high level. Moreover, students reported greater awareness of environmental and health issues linked to the practical learning experience.
