Abstract

This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of a readiness-enhancement program for health behavior modification on stroke-related knowledge, stroke prevention behaviors, and stroke risk levels among hypertensive patients at high risk. A quasi-experimental one-group pretest–posttest design was conducted with 90 participants at Phanom Sarakham Hospital. The program was developed based on the Health Belief Model (HBM) and the Transtheoretical Model (TTM). Outcomes were measured at three time points (baseline, immediate post-intervention, and 12-week follow-up). Data were analyzed using Repeated Measures ANOVA.

Results: After participating in the program, stroke-related knowledge significantly increased (F = 285.34, p < 0.001), overall health behaviors significantly improved (F = 189.67, p < 0.001), and systolic blood pressure (SBP) significantly decreased (F = 78.35, p < 0.001). Participants also progressed clearly from the Contemplation/Precontemplation stages to the Action/Maintenance stages of behavior change. These improvements were well sustained at the 12-week follow-up.
