Abstract

This study employed a quasi-experimental research design with the objectives of examining the effects of an educational program on self-care among patients with Type 2 diabetes and comparing their knowledge, attitudes, and blood glucose levels before and after participating in the program. The study was conducted at the outpatient nursing department of Waritchaphum Hospital. The sample consisted of 40 patients diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes who had blood glucose levels greater than 140 mg/dL on more than two occasions within six months. All participants were registered at the outpatient department of Waritchaphum Hospital and were selected using purposive sampling. The study was conducted from September 2025 to December 2025. Research instruments included a diabetes education program, a personal information questionnaire, a general knowledge assessment about diabetes, a perceived risk of diabetes complications scale, and a self-care behavior assessment for patients with diabetes. Data were analyzed using frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, and the Paired t-test to examine differences within the group.

The results showed that after participating in the diabetes education program, the sample group demonstrated an increase in diabetes knowledge scores by 2.93 points, an increase in perceived risk of diabetes complications by 6.78 points, and an increase in self-care behavior scores by 6.13 points. These scores were significantly higher than before participating in the program (p < .05). Additionally, blood glucose levels significantly decreased (p < .05).
