Nursing care for elderly cataract patients with diabetic comorbidity who underwent intraocular lens replacement surgery. Phatthananikom Hospital : A case study.

Abstract

      This study is a case study with the objective of examining the nursing care of elderly cataract patients with diabetic comorbidity who underwent intraocular lens replacement surgery. The tools used for data collection were these include records of information from medical records, symptoms and signs, current medical history, past medical history, medication history, and surgery. Lifestyle patterns, health behaviors, laboratory test results and other special examination results, nursing care from initial admission, nursing diagnosis, and patient nursing documentation. Data was analyzed using content analysis of clinical symptoms and nursing diagnoses, within the framework of holistic nursing. It encompasses physical, mental, social, and economic aspects, as well as DMETHOD discharge planning and evaluation of nursing outcomes according to the planned nursing intervention.

      The results of the study found that crucial care involves preparing patients and caregivers both physically and mentally before and after surgery. Providing guidance on managing the disease, symptoms, and potential complications from comorbidities before and after surgery. Examples include high blood sugar levels, eye pain, and pain monitoring. Practices to prevent accidents caused by blurred vision, including wearing eye shields and preparing for patient and family discharge. Instructions for self-care at home after discharge and referral to a nearby medical facility for continued care. This enables patients to behave correctly, safely, and without complications, reduces the length of hospital stays, and increases satisfaction.
