A case study of nursing care for pediatric patients with acute otitis media, comparing 2 cases admitted to Kalasin Hospital in 2026, by studying medical records, patient information, and clinical records. Nursing care was provided according to the major clinical duties of professional nurses in 7 major aspects of care, used to determine nursing diagnoses and solve health problems using the 5-step nursing process, from admission to discharge, as a standard for patient care.

      Study Results:

Case Study 1: A 10-year-old boy presented with left ear pain and purulent discharge from the ear for 1 day. Examination with an otoscope revealed a red and swollen tympanic membrane. He was diagnosed with Acute Otitis Media. The patient received treatment in the hospital for 2 days, including antibiotics, painkillers, and antipyretics, along with ear cleaning and water protection. Nursing care focused on pain assessment, infection monitoring, and providing parents with education on home care for the child. After treatment, the patient's symptoms gradually improved, and the doctor allowed him to go home.

Case Study 2: A 12-year-old male patient presented with severe pain in the right ear along with swelling and pain behind the ear. He had a history of intermittent discharge from the right ear. Physical examination revealed tenderness over the mastoid bone, and a CT scan of the temporal bone showed inflammation of the air cells within the bone. Consequently, he was diagnosed with mastoiditis accompanied by a postauricular abscess. The patient was admitted to the hospital for 2 days and received intravenous antibiotics and pus drainage, along with close monitoring for complications. Nursing care focused on pain assessment, infection surveillance, and providing instructions to the patient and guardians regarding care and follow-up treatment.
