The Effectiveness of Red Orange Extract (REDORY™) in Reducing UVB-Induced Hyperpigmentation
Keywords:
red orange extract, REDORY™, UVB radiation, hyperpigmentation, Melanin indexAbstract
This study was a randomized controlled clinical trial with participant and evaluator blinding (double-blind) involving 20 Thai volunteers. The volunteers received REDORY™ Facial Serum and a placebo serum on the inner upper arm continuously for three weeks before UVB irradiation and were followed up at weeks 0, 3, 4, and 7. The assessment tools included a Colorimeter for measuring skin lightness and a Mexameter for measuring the Melanin index and Erythema index. Data were analyzed using linear mixed-effects models.
The between-group comparison showed no statistically significant differences in all parameters at all time points (p > 0.05). Within the REDORY™ Facial Serum group, at week 3, the Colorimeter value increased significantly compared with week 0 (p < 0.001). After UVB irradiation, at week 4, the Colorimeter value decreased significantly (p = 0.029), while the Melanin index and Erythema index increased significantly (p < 0.001 and p = 0.001, respectively). At week 7, all three parameters remained higher than those at week 3. The Colorimeter value did not show a statistically significant difference, whereas the Melanin index and Erythema index showed statistically significant differences (p = 0.009 and p = 0.017, respectively). In the placebo serum group, the results were consistent in the same direction across all three parameters.
