THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN STRUCTURAL FACTORS, PROCESS QUALITY AND NURSING OUTCOMES IN CRITICAL CARE UNITS FROM THE PERCEPTION OF PROFESSIONAL NURSES IN HEALTH REGION 8.

This study aimed to examine the relationships and predictive power of five structural factor variables — human resources, work environment, organizational support, information systems, and personnel development — and six process quality variables — nursing process, standard guideline adherence, infection prevention and control, communication, patient and family participation, and coordination — on nursing outcomes, as perceived by professional nurses in secondary-level hospitals within Health Region 8. The sample comprised 169 professional nurses from ICUs across five hospitals, selected through stratified random sampling. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and stepwise multiple regression analysis.
Results: All structural factor variables showed statistically significant positive relationships with nursing outcomes at low to moderate levels (r = 0.254–0.475, p < .001), while all process quality variables demonstrated statistically significant positive relationships at high levels (r = 0.693–0.776, p < .001). Five variables collectively predicted 70.4% of the variance in nursing outcomes (R² = 0.704, Adjusted R² = 0.695, F = 77.531, p < .001). Patient and family participation had the highest predictive power (Beta = 0.322), followed by communication (Beta = 0.194), infection prevention and control (Beta = 0.169), work environment (Beta = 0.169), and nursing process (Beta = 0.168), respectively.
