Effects of a Community Health Promotion Program on Shoulder Pain and Functional Limitation in Individuals with Adhesive Capsulitis : A Retrospective Study.

This study aimed to examine the effects of a community-based health promotion program on reducing pain levels and functional limitations among patients with frozen shoulder in Pak Thok Subdistrict, Mueang Phitsanulok District, Phitsanulok Province. A quasi-experimental one-group pretest-posttest design with retrospective data analysis was employed. A total of 311 participants enrolled in a 6-week program conducted between October and November 2021. Outcomes were assessed using the Numeric Pain Rating Scale (NPRS) and the Shoulder Functional Limitation (SFL) scale. Participants were classified into three groups according to shoulder condition: the Green group, the Yellow group, and the Red group. Data were analyzed using the McNemar test and the Wilcoxon signed-rank test.
The results revealed that prior to the intervention, 239 participants (76.8%) were in the Green group (no pain), 60 participants (19.3%) were in the Yellow group (pain present but full range of motion), and 12 participants (3.9%) were in the Red group (limited range of motion). Following the intervention, the proportion of symptomatic participants declined significantly (McNemar χ² = 27.273, p < .001), with 50% of the Yellow group recovering to normal status. Pain levels (NPRS) and functional limitations (SFL) were significantly reduced (Z = -6.652, p < .001, r = 0.267 and Z = -2.640, p = .008, r = 0.106, respectively).
