Development of a Service Model for Caring in End of Life of Dependence Elderly Patients on Home-Based Palliative Care in Nakhon Phanom Province.

This study aimed to : 1) To study the problems and needs regarding the service model for home-based palliative care for terminally dependent elderly people; 2) To develop a service model for home-based palliative care for terminally dependent elderly people; and 3) To study the effects of developing the service model for home-based palliative care for terminally dependent elderly people. This research was an action research study. The sample group consists of The study involved 218 elderly individuals and 218 relatives of elderly individuals. Data collection tools included: 1) a general information questionnaire, 2) an assessment of the ability of the healthcare team and caregivers to provide palliative care to terminally dependent elderly individuals at home, and 3) an assessment of satisfaction with the palliative care services provided to terminally dependent elderly individuals at home by the healthcare team, caregivers, and relatives. Data were analyzed using content analysis, including mean, percentage, and standard deviation, and pre- and post-test comparisons were conducted using a paired t-test. The statistical significance level was set at 0.05.
Results of the study : It was found that after development (1) the average ability of the health team and caregivers to care for terminally dependent elderly with palliative care at home was significantly higher than before development. (2) the average satisfaction with the service model for palliative care for terminally dependent elderly at home was significantly higher than before development. Caregiver and family members showed statistically significant improvement after the intervention.
