Abstract

This study was survey research aimed to explore the information gap between orthodontists and patients seeking orthodontic treatment within a community healthcare setting. A study was conducted using in-depth interviews with 40 patients undergoing orthodontic treatment and 5 orthodontists at King Narai Hospital, Lopburi Province, Thailand. Data were analyzed using content analysis.

Results: Patients primarily emphasized information related to treatment costs, treatment duration, and esthetic outcomes, whereas orthodontists focused on clinical indications, treatment planning, long-term oral health outcomes, and potential risks associated with orthodontic treatment. The internet and social media were the main sources of information for patients, contributing to misunderstandings regarding orthodontic care.
