This study aimed to investigate the general characteristics of pediatric patients with RSV infection and identify risk factors associated with severe RSV infection among children admitted to Nam Phong Hospital, Khon Kaen Province. A survey research by retrospective study was conducted using medical records and electronic hospital databases of pediatric patients with laboratory-confirmed RSV infection admitted between January 2022 and December 2025. A total of 321 patients were included. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Chi-square test, Fisher’s exact test, Mann–Whitney U test, and multiple logistic regression. Statistical significance was set at p<0.05.
Results: Most patients were male, with a median age of 22 months. Severe RSV infection was observed in 34.89% of patients, and the highest incidence occurred between September and October. Multivariable analysis revealed that age under one year, prematurity, exposure to secondhand cigarette smoke, attendance at daycare or nursery, underlying medical conditions, and co-infection were independent risk factors for severe RSV infection (p<0.05). Exposure to secondhand cigarette smoke showed the strongest association with disease severity.
