This quasi-experimental study employed a one-group pretest-posttest design to examine the effects of a web-based learning application developed to enhance basic nursing skills on nursing students’ confidence in nursing practice and their satisfaction with the learning media. The participants consisted of 109 second-year nursing students enrolled in the Fundamental Nursing Concepts and Principles II course at the School of Nursing, University of Phayao. Purposive sampling was used. The research instruments included: (1) a web-based learning application for developing basic nursing skills, (2) a confidence assessment questionnaire for basic nursing practice with a content validity index (CVI) of .80 and a reliability coefficient of .70, and (3) a satisfaction questionnaire with a CVI of .89 and a reliability coefficient of .82. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and paired t-test.
The results showed that most participants were female (92.7%) and 19 years of age (75.2%). The majority had never previously seen and used nursing laboratory equipment, accounting for 75.2% and 91.7%, respectively. After using the web-based learning application, nursing students demonstrated significantly higher confidence in performing basic nursing skills compared with their pre-intervention scores (pretest: x̄ = 29.33, SD = 9.35; posttest: x̄ = 42.00, SD = 4.73; t = -12.23, p < .001). Furthermore, students reported a high level of satisfaction with the learning application. The highest-rated items were the usefulness of the application in developing nursing skills (x̄ = 4.71), enhancement of learning comprehension (x̄ = 4.66), and applicability of knowledge gained from the application to practical nursing training (x̄ = 4.65).
