Outcome of Phanat FLS in Phanat Nikhom hospital, Chon buri province.

Abstract

      This survey research by retrospective study aimed to assess the impact of the Phanat Fracture Liaison Service (FLS) on reducing refracture rates and improving overall health outcomes in patients with hip fractures. A total of 248 patients who had sustained a hip fracture and were enrolled in the Phanat FLS program were included in this study. Clinical outcomes collected from medical records included refracture occurrence, mortality rate, ambulatory status, and adherence to preventive health measures such as eye and dental check-ups, vitamin D levels, bone mineral density assessment, and osteoporosis medication adherence. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, with findings reported as frequencies, percentages, means, standard deviations, and ranges.

      The results demonstrated that refracture occurred in only four patients (1.6%), with subsequent fractures observed at the wrist, arm, thigh, and contralateral hip. The program also observed a mortality rate of 13.7% among patients. Regarding mobility, 19.8% of patients regained independent walking ability at 1-year follow-up, while 42.8% could ambulate with a supportive device, indicating substantial functional recovery facilitated by FLS involvement. Preventive health measure adherence rates were as follows: 34.3% of patients underwent eye check-ups, 33.9% received dental check-ups, 88.3% had vitamin D assessments, and 27.4% received bone mineral density evaluations. Additionally, 22.2% of patients were prescribed and adhered to osteoporosis medication.
