Abstract

This study was quasi experimental research aimed at developing and examining the effectiveness of a rehabilitation program for patients with substance use disorders receiving intermediate-stage care at Mini Thanyarak drug treatment hospitals. The study was conducted from August 2025 to February 2026. The sample consisted of 10 professional nurses and relevant personnel involved in the rehabilitation process 60 intermediate-stage patients. The research instruments included a focus group discussion guide, general information questionnaires, an expert program appropriateness evaluation form, an intention-to-abstain assessment, a recovery assessment, a quality-of-life assessment, a family functioning assessment, a community attitude and participation assessment, and a goal-outcome recording form. Data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics, including χ² test and two-way repeated measures ANOVA.

The results showed that the program, developed through the ADDIE Model, consisted of 4 main components: 11 group psychosocial therapy activities for patients, 3 family participation activities, 3 community participation activities, and a continuing community-based follow-up and rehabilitation system grounded in the Recovery concept and Community-Based Treatment approach. Overall, experts rated the program's appropriateness as passing the standard criteria (IOC ranging from 0.67 to 1.00). Regarding effectiveness testing, the experimental group had significantly higher scores than the control group in intention to abstain from substance use, recovery, and quality of life (p < .05), with a continuous upward trend across the follow-up periods. The experimental group also had significantly higher scores in family functioning as well as community attitude and participation than the control group (p < .05). For goal-level outcomes, the experimental group had a higher 3-month continuous abstinence rate than the control group (73.30% versus 36.70%).
