Abstract

This survey research by cross-sectional analytical study among 340 patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus aimed to determine the prevalence of and identify factors associated with reduced kidney function among patients receiving care at the Specialized Diabetes Clinic, Khon Kaen Hospital. Participants were recruited through simple random sampling from a total population of 1,603 patients, and data were retrieved from electronic medical records. Reduced kidney function was defined as an estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) < 60 mL/min/1.73 m². Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and multiple logistic regression analysis.

The results demonstrated that the prevalence of reduced kidney function (eGFR < 60 mL/min/1.73 m²) was 35.00% (119 patients). Factors significantly associated with reduced kidney function were the presence of albuminuria (aOR = 5.53, 95% CI: 3.12–9.82), age ≥ 60 years (aOR = 4.23, 95% CI: 2.15–8.31), duration of diabetes ≥ 10 years (aOR = 3.43, 95% CI: 1.84–6.39), and systolic blood pressure ≥ 140 mmHg (aOR = 2.05, 95% CI: 1.12–3.75).
