Abstract

     This one group pretest-posttest quasi experimental research aimed to self-management assessment with glucose meter and to compare fasting blood glucose in diabetic patients and diabetes medication costs. The study sample consisted of diabetic type2 patients with 8-hour fasting blood glucose >130 mg/dl and has a hemoglobinA1C level >7.0% and received medical services at Out-Patient Department Nongki Hospital Buri Ram Province between 1 October 2019-31 March 2022 selection of a specific sample of 80 patients. Data were analyzed by using frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation and Paired t-test.

     The results revealed that the experimental group that received intervention able to self-monitoring assessment blood glucose to promote behavior modification and self management skill to well controlled in blood sugar. Followed at 3 month 6 month and 1 year was significantly decreased the mean level of fasting blood glucose and can reduce the diabetes medication cost was 35,593.50 baht/year. Therefore encouraging diabetic patient/caregivers to self-management with glucose meter monitoring that is the way that diabetic patient can effectively control their fasting blood glucose levels and reduce the burden of medication costs.
