The development of nursing practice guidelines for Palliative care

Abstract

Research and development (R&D) is a study that encompasses both quantitative research and qualitative research, applied according to the research and development theory of the IO-Model (Titler et al., 2001). Its objectives are as follows: 1)
to investigate problem situations and analyze the current state, 2) to develop nursing practices, and 3) to study the effectiveness of nursing practice development from January 2021 to December 2021. The study involves a specific and targeted sample selection, divided into two parts. Part 1 consists of 30 professional nurses who will examine the problem situation and analyze the current state using the focus group discussion method. Part 2 involves 52 patients or primary caregivers, and data will be collected through the Edmonton Symptom Assessment System (ESAS) questionnaire. The average distress scores before and after participating in the development of nursing practices will be compared. The study will also include satisfaction surveys regarding nursing care and pre- and post-questionnaires for the team of caregivers providing end-of-life care. Data analysis will be performed using mean values, standard deviations, and Paired T-test One group. The assessment of peaceful and dignified
deaths will be analyzed using a percentage that has been verified for content accuracy by qualified experts, with a Cronbach's alpha reliability coefficient of 0.814 and 0.915, respectively.

The research results showed that patients in the hospice care group had lower average scores of distresses from symptoms after participating in the development of the end-of-life care protocol (gif.latex?\bar{x}=3.44, SD=1.52) with a statistically significant level of 0.05. The satisfaction level with the care provided by both patients and primary caregivers in the hospice care group was high (gif.latex?\bar{x}=3.92, SD=0.30). Additionally, the sample group evaluated the death as peaceful and dignified with a percentage of 84.44, The level of satisfaction of professional nurses with the overall outcomes of implementing an intensive care approach for critically ill patients has significantly increased compared to before the intervention, as evidenced by statistical analysis (p < 0.05, t = -39.371).
