Abstract

This study was case study A male patient was admitted to Chai Badan Hospital between June 23-28, 2022 with the objective of improving the efficiency of nursing care for patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) exacerbations.

Result: The patient was a 60-year-old Thai male who experienced shortness of breath for 50 minutes before coming to the hospital and was diagnosed with acute exacerbation of COPD. Nursing care during the crisis included ensuring the patient received enough oxygen, intubation and mechanical ventilation, medication to dilate airways, infection prevention and control, administering bronchodilators and intravenous fluids, and restoring balance of fluids and electrolytes in the body. The patient was on assisted ventilation for 2 days and received oxygen therapy through a high-flow air-blending device for another day. The patient's condition gradually improved during the recovery period and was discharged to prevent recurrence of the disease.
