Abstract

The purpose of this quasi-experimental research was to study the effects of cooperation between relatives and patients on changing self-care behavior of uncontrolled hypertensive patients in the area of responsibility of Phusing Hospital, Sisaket Province. The sample group was divided into two groups, with 37 people in each group, resulting in a total of 74 participants. The comparison group consisted of uncontrolled hypertensive patients in the area of responsibility of Khukhan Hospital. The experimental group received the program for a period of 12 weeks, while the comparison group received normal care. Data were collected using questionnaires administered before and after the experiment. Data analysis was conducted between 17 February 2023 and 17 May 2023, using descriptive statistics, including percentages, means, standard deviations, medians, and 25th and 75th percentiles. The difference in mean scores of variables within the group was compared using the paired t-test, while the difference in mean scores among the groups was analyzed using the independent t-test. The significance level was set at 0.05. After the experiment, the difference in the mean scores of knowledge about high blood pressure, perceived risk of high blood pressure, perceived severity of high blood pressure, and perceived benefits in preventing high blood pressure among uncontrolled hypertensive patients in the experimental group were significantly higher than those in the comparison group, with statistical significance at the 0.05 level. The results of the research indicate that the developed program was able to positively influence the self-care behavior of patients with uncontrolled high blood pressure in the responsibility area of Phusing Hospital, Sisaket Province, and it achieved the intended effectiveness.
