Nursing Care of Diabetic Patients with Uncontrolled Blood Sugar with Major Depressive Disorder: Comparison of Two Case Studies.

Abstract

     The purpose of this case study is to provide guidelines for nursing patients with diabetes who are unable to control their blood sugar levels and are experiencing depression. The study compares two cases: Case Study 1 involves a patient with diabetes, high blood sugar levels, chronic kidney disease stage 3, and depression. Case Study 2 involves a patient with diabetes and high blood sugar levels, along with coexisting depression. The study specifically selected patients receiving outpatient services at Non Sila Hospital, gathering data from medical records and interviews with patients and their relatives. The analysis was conducted using Gordon's Functional Health Patterns framework to assess and identify problems, and the nursing process was employed to establish nursing diagnoses, plan, and implement nursing interventions.
     The study found that significant factors increasing the risk of diabetes complications are associated with depression, which was present in both diabetic patients. This led to poorer self-care and an inability to maintain normal blood sugar levels. Early diagnosis and treatment, along with continuous monitoring and care, are essential to prevent subsequent complications such as heart disease, kidney failure, and dementia.
