Abstract
The aims of this research were to study Choa Pu Non Muang meritorious activity and 3) to study the benefits of belief and tradition in relation to Choa Pu Non Muang meritorious activity of Non-Muang villagers. This qualitative research was carried out by the study of related Buddhist academic documents, fieldwork research, participatory observation and in-depth interview and then the data obtained was analyzed by descriptive analysis.
Research indicates that,The benefits of belief and tradition in relation to Choa Pu Non Muang meritorious activity can be classified into five aspects: 1) benefits to oneself and family such as mental happiness from activity participation, safety from the ancestor ghost protection; 2) social benefits; this activity causes harmony and peace within the community; 3) cultural benefits; it is cultural preservation of the villagers with the belief in ‘the same ghost’; 4) benefits to Buddhism; this activity leads people to have faith in Buddhism because it encourages people to practice generosity, precept preservation and meditation and 5) environmental benefits; the forest in the residential area of the ancestor ghost is sacred; no one can invade and is brave enough to cut the trees in such area.
