Abstract

This article aims to study the status of Thaen in Isan culture by the documentary research method.  It was found that the status of Thaen in Isan culture differs depending on the context of the area and concentration of faith. It is caused by the propagation of the religion outside and religion study. The Thaen in Isan culture have 4 types: souls, angels, gods and God. All statuses are related by citing 5 proposals: (1) soul on the meaning of Isan, (2) belief development of Thaen, (3) types of Thaen, (4) attribute of Thaen and (5) religious values. Thaen in Isan culture is the same belief, but there is diverse status. Thaen can adapt to other beliefs and persisted in the Northeastern culture.
