บทความนี้ มุ่งเสนอความหมายเดิมของเจดีย์คือสิ่งที่ควรเคารพทั้งที่เป็นรูปธรรมและนามธรรมและความรู้ทั่วไปเกี่ยวกับเจดีย์ตามคติทางพระพุทธศาสนา ในด้านความหมายของเจดีย์ตามวัฒนธรรมการสร้างเจดีย์ที่สืบทอดมาจากศิลปะของเจดีย์ในแต่ละยุค เป็นภาพสะท้อนของเจดีย์ที่แสดงออกในเชิงสัญลักษณ์สำคัญทางพระพุทธศาสนาซึ่งสัมพันธ์กับวัฒนธรรมท้องถิ่น นอกจากนั้นยังเสนอหลักการพื้นฐานในการตีความเจดีย์ ซึ่งเป็นแนวคิดพื้นฐานด้านประติมานวิทยาของเจดีย์ที่สอดคล้องกับหลักธรรมทางพระพุทธศาสนาด้วย

Abstract

This article aims to present the original meaning of the cetiya, which covers both concrete and abstract things that should be respected and general knowledge of Buddhist cetiya. In terms of the meaning of the cetiya according to the culture, the building of the cetiya inherited from the art of the cetiya of each era is a reflection of the cetiya that expresses the significant symbol of Buddhism according to the local culture. It also proposed the basic interpretation of the cetiya which is the basic concept of Iconography of the chedi that is consistent with the basic principles of Buddhism.
