A Signal of Klong-Tuang: The Ethical Value and Existence in I-san Community of Phangkhang Sub-district, Muang District, Sakonnakhorn Province

Abstract

This research aims to 1) study the importance of Klong-tuang’ Signal, 2) study the ethical values of Klong-tuang’ Signal, and 3) study the existence situations of Klong-tung’ Signal in I-san community 0f Phangkhang sub-district, Muang district, Sakonnakhorn province. This is qualitative research on Participatory Action Research (PAR). The target group is people in Phangkhang sub-district, Muang district, Sakonnakhorn province, divided into 2 groups: 36 persons for interview and 250 persons for focus group that selected by purposive sampling and snowball sampling. Data are collected by in-depth interview and focus group. Main research instruments are the semi structure in-depth interview and schedule for focus group. Content analysis is used to perform this qualitative study.

The results of this study reveal that: 1) The importance of Klong-tuang’ signal consists of creation of acknowledgement, morality, worthiness, good stability and paragon and good relationship. 2) The signal of Klong-tuang can create the internal ethical value, namely the good conscious mind, and the external ethical value, namely the good behaviour or characteristic and the good community for people. And 3) The existence situations of Klong-tuang’ signal have mostly changed, that is, at the present there is no Klong-tuang’ signal at the area of Phangkhang sub-district. For its main cause, it is an appearance of modern technological communication tools.
