Paramatthajotika Chapter 1, 2, 6 Translation and Analysis

Abstract

This article was part of the dissertation entitled, ‘Paramatthajotika, Chapter 1, 2, 6 Translation and Analysis.’ There were 3 objectives as follows; 1) to study the meaning, background information, author’s biography and the structure of Paramatthajotika Chapter 1, 2, 6. 2) To translate from Thai to English version, and 3) To analyze the essence of Paramatthajotika Chapter 1, 2, 6 in relation to the development of Abhidhamma study, life and society in general. This research was qualitative research. Paramatthajotika composed by Phra Saddhammajotika Dhammacariya, refers to as the clarification of the entire ultimate reality, Paramattha Dhamma. There are 4 compendiums in Paramatthajotika; Citta, Cetasika, Rūpa and Nibbāna, which are the conventional details containing in Abhidhamma Pītaka. There are 4 sections in the text, 1) The titles of ultimate reality, 2) Pali meanings and brief explanation of ultimate reality, 3) Detailed explanations of ultimate reality, and 4) Questions concerning with ultimate reality. The translation approach used in this research was literal translation, aiming to preserve the literal essence, contexts, and idiomatic expressions of the scriptures to the greatest extent possible, for the benefit of studying in English language from original text. This aims to foster comprehension of the profound teachings encapsulated Rupa and Nama for insight meditators along with Abhidhamma study. This will help abandon wrong views on self-indulgence, which will lead to happiness and peace to individuals, society, country, and mankind.
