The Life Path of Decision not to Pursue Higher Education: A Narration of Mathayom 6 Student with A Good Academic Performance in Maha Sarakham Province

Abstract

This qualitative study is narrative research with the objectives to 1) To understand the life path of finding the causes and factors of Mathayom 6 students who have a good academic performance but decide not to pursue higher education level. 2) Presents guidelines for planning the operations of educational institutions in order to assist students in making appropriate decisions regarding further education at the higher education level. The sample comprises in the research is those who are about to graduate in high school level, Maha Sarakham Province. To be a student whose academic results are good. Their parents have sufficient income to support further education, but they decided not to continue their studies at the higher education level. The one sample was selected using Purposive Sampling method by specific qualifications which was the student who decided not to study further in higher education. The research tool was an in-depth interview and a content analysis method and main point analysis to focus on understanding the informant decision not to attend in higher education. The main informant is the student about to graduate from Mathayom 6, gender: Female and she is 18 years old.

          The results of this study are presented in two main sections. The first section focus on  the story’ life of the student from she was born until now. The information consists of basic personal of student, members of family and the parental income of student. The reasons for decision not to attend in higher education, consisting of personal factors, friend factors, family factors and the future career goals. The second section, should be more guidance for further education and career guidance in the future. Including providing scholarships for students to continue their studies at the higher education level.
