Hell is not Other People Psychoanalysis and the Character “Yoon Jongwoo” from South Korean Series Strangers from Hell

Abstract

The article aims to study and analyze a principal character from Korean television series named Strangers from Hell, Yoon Jongwoo, directed by Lee Chang-hee by Psychoanalysis theory. Because of the character, Yoon Jongwoo, He is a person who always does anything opposite his mind. In other words, he keeps anger and negativity in his mind and compromises with other people. His character represents a working process of the Structure of Mind theory about Id, Ego, and Superego under Psychoanalysis theory by Sigmund Freud. Eventually, Yoon Jongwoo couldn’t control his anger so it makes the working process of Id, Ego, and Superego work abnormally. So it leads to the collapse of his life. This is an issue that indicates the environment is not a problem that destroys Yoon Jongwoo’s life. The study found that Yoon Jongwoo is the primary cause to make himself been in terrible situations due to he couldn’t control his instinct and true feeling. In addition, the environment of his life is a support factor that makes him be uncontrolled himself. Moreover, to be uncontrolled is indicated through a “smile” that doesn’t make him happy but makes him like to be in hell.
