On the Coronation

Abstract

In 1946 Prince Dhani Nivat gave a lecture at the Siam Society with a short, authoritative account of the coronation ceremony and its history. His lecture briefly traced the history of the Siamese coronation ceremony, described the ceremony of King Rama I in 1785 which became the model, and then explained each segment of the two-day event, including the roles of the court Brahmans, and the significance of the regalia.
