Developing a Curriculum in Local Wisdom on Palmyra Palm in Huai Krot Subdistrict Community, Sankhaburi District, Chainat Province

Abstract
The article aims to develop and evaluate the use of curriculum in local wisdom on Palmyra Palm in Huai Krot Sub-district Community, Sankhaburi District, Chainat Province. The participatory action research (PAR) method is employed in which 60 informants were purposively selected from Huai Krot sub-district communities No. 1-9, based on a 9,919 population in total. Sixty key informants were divided into 3 groups: 45 students, 12 teachers and curriculum development committees, and 3 community researchers and researchers. Research tools utilized consisted of (1) an interview form for the need for community curriculum development, (2) a note form for the need for learning local wisdom on Palmyra palm, (3) a Huai Krot community curriculum draft, and (4) a survey form for learners’ opinion on a community curriculum. The findings show that the developing curriculum is a new local curriculum as a short course for the Huay Krot sub-district community. It is about local wisdom on Palmyra palm, consisting of 9 bodies of knowledge, with 48-hours curriculum. Each body of knowledge takes no less than 3 hours, and students can choose to attend the body of knowledge they want. The teachers are divided into 7 groups: wisdom teachers, Palmyra palm professionals, specialists of savory food and desserts made from Palmyra palm. In a trial of a community curriculum with 27 villagers, 24 of which attend one body of knowledge and wisdom. Seven people, the highest numbers, attend cooking classes on savory dishes of Palmyra palm (Tom Pla Ra Hua Tan). The students’ opinions on the curriculum could be presented in 6 aspects: (1) curriculum, (2) content, (3) teaching and learning activities, (4) environment and learning resources, (5) measurement and evaluation, and (6) its value and utilization. The overall score was at a very good level. Research outputs are community curriculum, documents and materials for practice for organizing local wisdom learning activities on Palmyra palm in the Huai Krot sub-district and other communities interested in developing Palmyra palm-related careers.
