A small business like small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) play an important role to the economic development of the country. To make small businesses as an advantage in the competition, the resources and capabilities are required more than their competitors. The purpose of this article is to develop a model to build competitiveness of businesses, under the resource base view theory and the use of Colins and Montgomery’s concept. The results of the literature review show the relationship between intellectual capital, innovation and the performance of organizations. Small business can use this model to make the competitive advantage for its firm.
