Linguistic Strategies in Speech Acts of Advising: A Case Study of Elders’ Advice to Family Members

Abstract
This article on “Linguistic Strategies in Speech Acts of Advising: A Case Study of Elders’ Advice to Family Members” aims to study the linguistic strategies in speech acts of advising of elders’ advice to family members. The data were collected using questionnaires distributed during 24 April 2022 – 5 May 2022, with a total of 25 respondents. The respondents were asked to give advice verbally. The results of the study showed that the linguistic strategies in speech acts that the elders used to give advice to family members the most were commands, followed by warnings, asking questions, blaming, and offering alternatives, respectively. Meanwhile, the least common strategy was threatening.
