Language Structure and Meaning-Making: A Case Study of the News Language in Royal Court

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to find out the language structure of the news language in the royal court and the meaning from the language structure of the news language in the royal court. The research data was collected from news as derived from the royal court that presented information about the royal duties from 1 January 2021 to 31 December 2021. It was divided into 3 stories per month. In total, there are 36 stories from Matichon Online News Agency. Theories were used in the study namely; Structural Grammar Theory and Language Iconicity Theory in data analysis. The results of the research were found that the language structure of Royal News has a total of 6 structures, including simple sentence, topicalized sentence, double-object construction, compound sentence, complex sentence, and causative construction. Double-object construction has a significantly higher frequency than other structures. When analyzing the Language Iconicity, it was found that the language structure reflected the thoughts and real-worlds of the royal family, loving-kindness, the story of Royal authority carried out for the benefit and happiness of the people, the monogamous family concept, and the importance of class in Thai society. Moreover, the research results confirmed the idea that language structure reflected meaning or thought, which comes from the experiences of individuals or groups of people under the incubation of society.
