Literary Language and Worldviews as Appeared in the Short Story “Luang Ta” by “Phrae Yuea Mai”

Abstract

The purpose of this research article is to study the literary language and worldviews as appeared in the short story “Luang Ta” by “Prae Yuea Mai.” The researcher collected data from the short story “Luang Ta,” written in 1973, which consists of 13 chapters. Literary and worldview concepts were used for data analysis.
The findings of the study on literary language and worldviews appeared in the short story “Luangta” by “Prae Yuea Mai” revealed that the literary language used includes words of emotion, terminology or technical terms, foreign language words, rude or vulgar words, abbreviations, and words of honor. Regarding figurative language, there is the use of simile, metaphor, symbols, personification, metonymy, reference, comparison, onomatopoeia, and rhetorical questions. Meanwhile, the worldviews appeared in the short story “Luang Ta” by “Prae Yuea Mai” consist of 6 aspects, namely: 1. worldviews towards religion, emphasizing Dhamma teachings, religious places, and the Lord Buddha; 2. worldviews towards society, emphasizing morality, entertainment venues, and diseases and illnesses; 3. worldviews towards humans, emphasizing beliefs and love; 4. worldviews towards politics regarding forms of government; 5. worldviews towards education, emphasizing educational personnel, educational management, and careers; 6. worldviews towards nature, emphasizing life.
