Study and development of the patterns of Klong Sa Bua pottery in Ayutthaya province for souvenir

Abstract

The project on studying and developing the patterns of Klong Sa Bua pottery in Ayutthaya province to be applied to souvenir design aims at studying the background and specific features of pottery in the local area, developing and redesigning traditional pottery, and creating new designs and patterns to facilitate the creation of souvenir items in order to meet the current consumers’ needs. According to the research results, the clay pot is revealed as a unique pottery product of Klong Sa Bua. Here, the knowledge of pottery making has been passed on over the generations. In producing such traditional pottery, there exists the employment of new product designs and patterns. The forming process is conducted on the potter’s wheel, and the purpose of product design is to function as a souvenir. Furthermore, the enamel glaze is used in decorating the products to have special characteristics. The five patterns of contemporary pottery products were designed and fired at 1,220 degrees Celsius. The consumer survey reveals a very high level of satisfaction with towards the designs of the souvenir items, signifying the achievement of the project’s preset goal. Therefore, this research project is considered a part of local Thai craft conservation efforts.
