The Belief in Buddha in lanna’s Socio-culture

Abstract

The research is of three objectives: 1) to investigate the belief of Buddha which appeared in the Theravada Buddhist Scriptures; 2) to explore the belief of Buddha in Lanna Buddhist literatures; 3) to analyze the Buddha in Lanna`s socio-cultural belief. This research was conducted by a qualitative research method using the content analysis and descriptive writing.The research is of three objectives: 1) to investigate the belief of Buddha which appeared in the Theravada Buddhist Scriptures; 2) to explore the belief of Buddha in Lanna Buddhist literatures; 3) to analyze the Buddha in Lanna`s socio-cultural belief. This research was conducted by a qualitative research method using the content analysis and descriptive writing.
Research findings were as follows: in Theravada Buddhist scriptures stated that the term "Buddha" was merely used for the one who attained enlightenment. The Buddha is divided into two types i.e. the Buddha; Fully Enlightened One and Paccekabuddha: Individually Enlightened One. In this regard, all Buddha must pass through the practice of being a Bodhisattva-the Buddha To Be. In addition, all the Buddha will always be predicted by the Buddha any one time. Later, Lanna monks composed the Buddhist literature works to preach. Thus, it was causing the Lanna people to recognize the belief in the Buddha, both consistent and different from the Tipitaka and Commentaries. The different beliefs were influenced by the scriptures written in Sri Lanka. The Buddha in Lanna`s socio-cultural belief, the Lanna Buddhist people believe that the Buddha had made the great meritorious deeds, He had a supernormal powers over the local mysteries and still exists in the state of the holy spirit. Therefore, Buddhists in Lanna respect, reverence and believe in the Powers of the Buddha.
