The Development of Ethical Leadership Indicators of School Directors under the Office of the Basic Education Commission in the North-eastern Region of Thailand

Abstract

The objectives of this study were to: 1) develop ethical leadership indicators of school, 2) to examine the congruence of the developed structural model on ethical leadership indicators of school with the empirical data. The study was divided into 3 phases. The first phase was the building of research conceptual framework by synthesizing relevant documents and researches and interviewing experts. The second phase was the development of ethical leadership indicators of school by applying modified Delphi’s technique for 3 times, and the third phase was congruence examination of the developed structural model on ethical leadership indicators of school directors with the empirical data. Data was collected from the sample group of 1,756 school directors and teachers primary and secondary schools which were chosen as sampling units. A 5-level rating scale questionnaire with discrimination power for each item between 0.34-0.90 and the overall reliability value at 0.99 was the data collection tool of choice. Confirmatory factor analysis of the collected data was conducted by using statistics software.
The findings are as follows:
1. Ethical leadership indicators of school directors under the office of the basic education commission in the North-eastern region of Thailand consisted of 7 main components, 26 sub-components and 182 indicators.
2. The developed structural model on ethical leadership indicators of school directors under the Office of the Basic Education Commission in the North-eastern region of Thailand shows congruence with the empirical data with Chi-square = 42.70, df = 121, p-value = 1.00, GFI-0.99, AGFI = 0.98, RMSEA = 0.00, which are in accordance with the research hypothesis.
