A Comparative Study of Consonants and Vowels in Words of Tai Ya’s Chiang Rai and Bangkok Thai

Abstract

This article aimed to compare consonants and vowels in words of Tai Ya’s Chiang Rai and Bangkok Thai. This study usages 2 sets is the data of Tai Ya’s Chiang Rai is a discourse by Tai Ya usages and the data of Bangkok Thai used consonants and vowels.
The results show that: The consonants in Tai Ya’s Chiang Rai have 19 and 21 consonants in Bangkok Thai words. The consonants in both languages had functioned as initial and final consonants. Tai Ya’s Chiang Rai has 16 sounds of initial consonants but Bangkok Thai has 21 sounds. Tai Ya’s Chiang Rai does not found initial consonant clusters sounds but that show in Bangkok Thai, and final consonants of both languages show 9 sounds as well the vowels in Tai Ya’s Chiang Rai has monophthong 18 sounds and Bangkok Thai has 21 vowels as initial 18 sounds and 3 combined vowels. Both languages show consonants and vowel interactions that are systematically consistent.
