Local Wisdom Knowledge Management for Strengthening the Community A Case Study of Safrol Laurel products Khao Kob Sub-district, Huai Yot District, Trang Province

Abstract

The purposes of this research were 1) study local wisdom, 2) examine knowledge management processes, 3) assess the success of local wisdom knowledge management, and 4) propose guidelines to strengthen communities through local wisdom from Safrol Laurel products in Khao Kob Subdistrict, Huai Yot District, Trang Province. This qualitative research involved key informants including local experts, community leaders, and Safrol Laurel products practitioners, totaling 10 people. Data collection methods included
in-depth interviews, observations, and focus group meetings. The research tools comprised 1) structured interviews, 2) observation forms, and 3) focus group meeting records. Data were analyzed using deductive and inductive methods, concluding with content analysis.
The results revealed that:
1. The local wisdom knowledge management process for Safrol Laurel products in Khao Kob Subdistrict, Huai Yot District, Trang Province, involves eight key aspects: identifying knowledge, seeking knowledge, creating knowledge, retaining knowledge, exchanging knowledge, storing knowledge, transferring knowledge, and applying knowledge.
2. Key success factors for the local wisdom knowledge management of Safrol Laurel products include knowledge about knowledge management, organizational culture, group leaders, organizational structure, support from external agencies, and local resources.
3. Important internal and external factors for strengthening the community were identified. Internal factors include 1) knowledge and management of Safrol Laurel products wisdom, 2) the wisdom of Safrol Laurel products, 3) influence of group and/or community leaders, 4) community information systems, 5) communication within the community, 6) community collaboration, and 7) ongoing community activities. External factors include 1) sources supporting community strength and 2) networks of cooperation and competition between communities.
