Factors Associated with Stress among Young Caregivers in Phon District, Khon Kaen Province.

This study aimed to examine the levels of attitudes toward elderly health care, stress levels, and factors associated with stress among young caregivers in Phon District, Khon Kaen Province. A cross-sectional study design was employed, involving 323 young caregivers aged 13–29 years, selected through multistage random sampling. The research instruments included validated questionnaires with confirmed content validity and reliability, measured using Cronbach’s alpha coefficient. These included the SPST-20 Stress Scale (α = 0.865) and a questionnaire on attitudes toward elderly health care (α = 0.855).
The results revealed that the majority of young caregivers experienced moderate levels of stress (64.09%). The most significant stressor was financial burden, particularly insufficient income (Mean = 2.89, SD = 1.19). Regarding attitudes toward elderly care, 50.15% of participants demonstrated positive attitudes, especially recognizing caregiving as an expression of gratitude (Mean = 4.19, SD = 0.78). Chi-square tests and Fisher’s exact test indicated statistically significant associations between stress levels and factors such as living status, history of serious illness, and attitude levels (p < 0.05).
