This study aimed to study the effect of a self-efficacy promotion program for preventing UTIs associated with urinary tract involvement among nurses in the Intensive Care Unit, Thatphanom Crown Prince Hospital, Nakhon Phanom Province. This research is a quasi-experimental study applying Bandura's (1997) self-efficacy theory. The sample consisted of 14 nurses working in the Intensive Care Unit, Thatphanom Crown Prince Hospital, and 259 critically ill patients with urinary catheters in the Intensive Care Unit, Thatphanom Crown Prince Hospital, between January and June 2026. Data collection instruments included a general information questionnaire for nurses and patients, a self-efficacy assessment scale for preventing UTIs associated with urinary tract involvement among nurses, and a knowledge assessment scale. The behavioral assessment form and the satisfaction assessment form regarding the use of the self-efficacy promotion program were used as tools in the experiment. The tools used were the self-efficacy promotion program for preventing urinary tract infections associated with catheterization among nurses in the Intensive Care Unit, Thatphanom Crown Prince Hospital; the video media "Knowledgeable and Progressive: Preventing CAUTI"; and the manual on preventing urinary tract infections associated with catheterization. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, including frequency, percentage, and standard deviation. Differences were tested for comparison using the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test, with a statistical significance level of 0.05.
Results : It was found that 1) After the experiment, the mean self-efficacy perception in preventing urinary tract infections associated with catheterization among nurses was significantly higher than before the experiment at the 0.05 significance level (z = -3.30, p = 0.001). 2) After the experiment, the mean knowledge regarding the prevention of urinary tract infections associated with catheterization among nurses was higher than before the experiment. 1) After the experiment, the mean score for nurses' behavior in preventing urinary tract infections associated with catheterization was significantly higher than before the experiment (p < 0.05, z = -3.30, p = 0.001). 2) After the experiment, the mean score for nurses' satisfaction with the self-efficacy promotion program in preventing urinary tract infections associated with catheterization was significantly higher than before the experiment (p < 0.05, z = -3.30, p = 0.001). 3) After the experiment, the mean score for nurses' satisfaction with the self-efficacy promotion program in preventing urinary tract infections associated with catheterization was significantly higher than before the experiment (z = -3.296, p = 0.001). 4) After the experiment, the incidence of urinary tract infections associated with catheterization was significantly lower than before the experiment (z = -3.296, p = 0.001) and 5) After the intervention, the incidence of urinary tract infections associated with catheterization was lower than before the intervention (1.16 to 1.33 per 1,000 catheterization days).
