Abstract
This article, part of the Hospital Ethnography and Anthropology of Care Research Project, stems from applied anthropological fieldwork aimed at implementing narrative medicine through the development of the “Parallel Record.” This tool enables the documentation of patients' and families' experiences and emotions, contrasting with the typically impersonal medical records focused on clinical data. Healthcare teams in two pilot hospitals were trained to integrate parallel records into their daily care practices. By analyzing these narratives, the study suggests that narrative writing can transform both the meaning and practice of care. It enhances healthcare professionals' ability to recognize patients' emotions and unique contexts, fosters attentiveness to healing environments and tools, and cultivates a more sensitive and responsive approach to caregiving.
