Desirable Knowledge in Theravada Buddhism

Abstract


The purpose of the article was to study the doctrine of Theravada Buddhism regarding knowledge. Results revealed that the knowledge found in Buddhism is the truth which have been proved with one’s own empiricism. According to the results, the truth, is the actual state of natural phenomena stemming from three sources-:wisdom resulting from instructional process, wisdom resulting from reflection, and wisdom resulting from empirical knowledge. There is the possibility that the first two kinds of knowledge may be accurate or inaccurate. However, the third kind of knowledge resulting from religious practiced that adheres to  the great master’s instructions, usually reflects the  state of realizing  the truth of nature . This knowledge is specifically known as insight. This insight can lead to the realization of truths envisioning not only insight state but also reality.  


This knowledge is the instrument leading to either the last step of suffer ending or the knowledge that can end all kinds of suffering or eliminate all defilements. This knowledge is true, correct and desirable in Theravada Buddhism.
