บทความนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อนำเสนอบทแปลปรัชญานิพนธ์ขนาดสั้นของมิกิ คิโยะชิ เรื่อง ญี่ปุ่นที่ไร้ซึ่งปรัชญา และทำการวิเคราะห์ทัศนะของมิกิผ่านบริบทแวดล้อมของยุคสมัย ข้อค้นพบของบทความนี้แสดงให้เห็นว่า ปัญญาชนแห่งยุคสมัยเมจิบางส่วนยืนยันแนวคิดที่ว่า ไม่มีปรัชญาในประเทศญี่ปุ่น เพราะพวกเขาเข้าใจผิดโดยไปกำหนดให้ปรัชญาเป็นวิชาในแขนงหนึ่งของศาสตร์ทางตะวันตก อย่างไรก็ตาม มิกิเสนอว่าปรัชญาคือมโนทัศน์ทางความคิด ดังนั้นการที่ชนชาติญี่ปุ่นมีมโนทัศน์ทางความคิดในแบบของตนเองอยู่แล้ว จึงไม่จำเป็นที่จะต้องถกเถียงกันอีกต่อไปในเรื่องการมีอยู่ของปรัชญาญี่ปุ่น

Abstract

The aim of this article is to present the translation of Miki Kiyoshi's short philosophical essay titled 'Japan without Philosophy' and to analyze his attitude by context of epoch. The finding of this article shows that some of the Meiji thinkers give their opinions the philosophy does not exist at the time because they mistakenly categorize philosophy as a branch of the Western sciences. However, Miki suggested that philosophy is a concept of thought. Japan as a nation have its concept of thought. Therefore, there is no point to debate about the existence of Japanese philosophy.
