THE LEARNING MANAGEMENT USING THE 5W1H TECHNIQUE WITH APPLICATIONS TO DEVELOP ENGLISH READING COMPREHENSION ABILITY OF GRADE 8 STUDENTS

Abstract
The objectives of this research article were to 1) compare the English reading comprehension ability of Grade 8 students before and after learning using the 5W1H technique in combination with applications, and 2) study the opinions of Grade 8 students regarding the learning using the 5W1H technique in combination with applications. The sample group used in this research comprised of Grade 8 students studying in the second semester in the 2022 academic year at an extended opportunity school under the Prachinburi Municipality, Prachinburi Province. The sample group was from 1 classroom of 30 students, selected through simple random sampling by lottery method using the classroom as a random unit. The research instruments employed in this research included 1) eight lesson plans for English language instruction, 2) a test to evaluate English reading comprehension ability, and 3) a semi-structured interview was conducted with 30 participants to explore their perceptions of learning management utilizing the 5W1H technique in conjunction with applications. The data were analyzed by using content analysis. The statistics used for data analysis included mean, standard deviation, and dependent samples t-test.
The research results revealed that: 1) the English reading comprehension ability of the students after learning using the 5W1H technique in combination with applications was significantly higher than before learning with the technique, at a statistical significance level of.01, and 2) After the learning activities, students expressed their opinions that the content was interesting, enjoyable and challenging. They believed that it helped to improve their English reading comprehension abilities.
