Aims

Thoughts is a peer-reviewed scholarly journal that advances research in English language, literature, and translation studies, publishing high-quality academic articles. We provide a dynamic forum for academic discussion and exchange among researchers, serving as a platform for sharing scholarly work with the broader public. We welcome original research that contributes to these interconnected fields, upholding international academic standards through expert peer review to ensure impactful and credible scholarship.

Thoughts aims to advance humanities scholarship by exploring the complexities of human expression through language, literature, and translation. Our mission in this increasingly digital age is to illuminate the enduring value of human creativity and understanding. Our peer-reviewed research bridges scholarly inquiry with broader cultural dialogue, fostering deeper appreciation of our shared human experience.

Scope

Thoughts focuses on the following areas of content:

  1. English language: English linguistics, English applied linguistics, Second Language Acquisition (SLA)
  2. Literature: British and American literature, Literature in English, Film Studies, Literary Theory
  3. Translation Studies: research on translation theory and practice across cultural and linguistic contexts

Types of Manuscripts:

  • Research Articles

Research articles in Thoughts present original scholarly contributions in English language, literature, and translation studies. These comprehensive studies follow a clear structure, including a literature review, theoretical framework, methodology, analysis, and interpretation. Discussions should be situated within broader scholarly conversations and theoretical contexts. Manuscripts should be 10–20 A4 pages, including the abstract, references, tables, figures, and appendices.

  • Academic Articles

Academic articles in Thoughts offer critical analyses, discussions, and reviews that contribute to scholarly discourse. These articles engage with linguistic, literary, translation, and theoretical frameworks, presenting novel perspectives and evaluating existing scholarship. Rather than presenting new research, they aim to synthesize, critique, or expand on established knowledge. Manuscripts should be 10–12 A4 pages, including the abstract, references, tables, figures, and appendices.

Peer Review Process

Articles submitted will undergo a double-blind review by at least TWO impartial, external readers from different institutional backgrounds and with expertise in relevant academic disciplines. (Authors may request the consideration of three reviewers for their manuscripts.)

Publication Frequency

Thoughts is published two times a year. The first issue is published between January and June and the second issue between July and December

Submissions can be made throughout the year. Prospective authors are invited to consult the submission guidelines.

Language

The journal accepts manuscripts written in English that fall within its scope and meet academic writing standards. Please refer to the Author Guidelines for detailed submission requirements.

Publication Fees

Thoughts adheres to a policy of no fees for manuscript submission or publication.

Open Access Policy

This journal provides immediate open access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge.

Authors are required to transfer the copyright of their articles to Thoughts to ensure proper legal protection and facilitate distribution in both print and digital formats. Revenue Sources
The Faculty of Arts, Chulalongkorn University fully supports the production of Thoughts, including editorial and publication processes. This support helps maintain academic rigor and quality without influencing editorial decisions regarding manuscript review or acceptance.

Advertising
Thoughts does not accept advertising funds. However, information about academic events, research opportunities, or relevant announcements may be shared on the journal’s official website when deemed appropriate, provided that doing so upholds the journal’s ethical standards.

Direct Marketing

Thoughts does not engage in direct marketing. Calls for papers and other announcements are shared via the journal’s website, academic networks, or relevant institutional platforms in accordance with ethical communication practices.

Journal History

Thoughts was founded on January 3, 1981, by the Department of English to commemorate the 65th anniversary of the Faculty of Arts, Chulalongkorn University. As a semi-annual journal (January–June and July–December), Thoughts publishes high-quality academic articles in the fields of English language, literature, and translation. The journal aims to promote research and scholarly exchange by providing a platform for dialogue among researchers and a channel for sharing academic work with the broader public. Initially published in print with ISSN 1513-1025 until December 2016, Thoughts transitioned to an online-only format in January 2017 under ISSN 2586-906X.
