Workplace Discourse by Almut Koester
Main Article Content
Abstract
Scholars from various disciplines such as linguistics, anthropology, sociology, communication studies, and even business, have become interested in investigating “discourses” to understand how human beings discursively construct our realities in diverse and arguably fragmented social milieus as well as how discourses shape our social lives. Almut Koester, among several applied linguistics scholars, for example, has conducted extensive research into how language is used in professional interactions and in 2004 and 2006 wrote two books namely The Language of Work and Investigating Workplace Discourse both by Routledge. Recently, the author published another book in the Continuum Discourse Series entitled Workplace Discourse, which will be the focus of this review.
