Information Services Model of the Employment Promotion Agencies for Thai Elderly

Abstract

The research aimed to 1) study the status of information services of the governmental employment promotion agencies for Thai elderly, 2) study the elderly information behaviors for employment, and 3) develop the information services model of governmental employment promotion agencies. In this qualitative research,six administrators, four information service officers, and twenty elderly people were the sampled key informants. Research instruments were semi-structured in-depth interview forms. The data were analyzed using the inductive content analysis method.


The research revealed some significant results: 1) The governmental employment promotion agencies organized four information service activities, including reference service, training or coaching service, referral service, and information dissemination service. The  contents delivered accordingly to the agencies' missions and problems faced differently by the elderly in each regional area, 2) Regarding the elderly’s information behavior on employment, almost of the elderly’s needed information were about jobs resources and qualifications of applicants, meanwhile, they preferred to use information-seeking channels as the employment promotion agency being suggested from the information service officers and close person, almost of Thai elderly used information to develop their own potential, and  3) The developed information services model consisted of three main elements: governmental employment promotion agencies, information, and user.
