The Study of Family Contexts Affecting Graduation from Information and Library Science Program, Suratthani Rajabhat University

Abstract
This research aims to study the family contexts and its influence over an educational success of students and graduates in the Information and Library Science Program, Suratthani Rajabhat University. This study adopted the qualitative research method in which the research data were collected from the in-depth interview of informants. The representative samples were selected by the purposive selection which included 12 fourth-year students (Batch 58) and 10 graduates (Batch 57). The interview took place during June to September 2019. The data analysis was performed by content analysis, synthesis, summary and grouping.
The study found that (1) most informants had birthplace and lived in Surat Thani Province. Most families earned their living from farming and had income of 10,001-20,000 baht a month approximately. Their parent had a marital status of married. They lived in rental dormitory costing 2,500-3,500 baht a month. Some student worked a parttime job while studying. Factors affecting their decision on education included themselves, parental advice and relatives who graduated from this program and had been qualified for a professional teacher. The graduate was required by the labor market. Regarding their family context, they had been raised with the authoritative parenting style. (2) The results of family context analysis affecting students’ graduation consisted of having siblings or relatives who graduated the Information and Library Science Program. However, their parent’s education background, number of natural siblings who are studying and parent’s occupation did not affect or have influence over their graduation.
