Main Article Content
Abstract
This research aimed to examine the challenges pertaining to the operation of libraries in Kamphaeng Phet’s Secondary Education Service Area. The library operations in these localities are classified based on the size of secondary schools. In addition, this research attempts to compare the libraries’ operations by assessing their compliance with the standards set by the Office of Basic Education Commission. For the purposes of this study, a sample group of 64 individuals including school administrators and teacher librarians was selected. The study was conducted in 2022 academic year in secondary schools under the office of Kamphaeng Phet’s Secondary Educational Service Area. The data was collected using a questionnaire. The statistics used for data analysis included mean, standard deviation and content analysis. The results revealed that school administrators and teacher librarians experienced moderate level of challenges in overall library operations ( =2.30, S.D.=1.32). The most problematic issues pertained to students’ standards (= 2.80, S.D.=1.50) followed by Information Resource standards (= 2.78, S.D.=1.60); and the least related to building standards and academic materials (=2.72, S.D.=1.59). When comparing the challenges faced by different schools, it was revealed that issues relating to library operations were not associated with the size of the school. Overall, it was found that schools of all sizes experienced some challenges as they related to their libraries’ operations at a moderate level (=2.30, S.D.=1.32). Large schools appeared to have experienced the most issues (=2.59, S.D.=1.46) followed by very large schools (=2.24, S.D.=1.46). Average sized schools experienced the least number of challenges ( =2.12, S.D.=1.20).
