A Bibliometric Analysis of Publications in Scopus Quartile 1 between 2019–2023 of Higher Education Institutions in Thailand Classified under the Global and Frontier Research Group

Abstract
Bibliometric analysis is a vital method for assessing research development and capacity of higher education institutions at both national and international levels. Its significance has increased in the context of global university rankings and the alignment of research with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which are now key indicators of academic advancement. This study analyzes the Scopus Quartile 1 publications of Thai higher education institutions classified under the Global and Frontier Research group from 2019 to 2023, and evaluates the international publication performance of the National Institute of Development Administration (NIDA) against the Times Higher Education (THE) assessment framework. The study population comprises 17 institutions within the Global and Frontier Research group, with a total of 49,229 articles. Descriptive statistics, including frequency distribution, percentage, and ranking, were employed in the analysis. The findings reveal notable variations in both the volume and quality of research outputs across institutions. Furthermore, the results offer valuable insights into the trajectory of national research development, underscoring opportunities and challenges for enhancing the global competitiveness of Thai higher education institutions.
